Project on Agricultural Policies and Rural Transformation in the DRC

This research project analyses the major agricultural policies implemented in the DRC since independence, against a backdrop of ambitions for modernisation, increased productivity and poverty reduction. Through our work on agro-industrial parks, special agricultural economic zones, agricultural recovery policies and climate-smart agriculture approaches, we demonstrate that these projects are often fraught with tensions between productivist imperatives, growth requirements and the socio-economic and ecological realities of local communities.
