Water

The Democratic Republic of the Congo has one of the largest water systems in Africa. Water resources play a central role in agriculture, fishing, navigation, and energy production. They are also essential for public health and food security. Despite this abundance, many communities still face difficulties in accessing safe drinking water and sanitation. Aquatic environments are also under increasing pressure from mining activities, industrial pollution, watershed degradation, and the effects of climate change.

EcoAct-Congo conducts research on water governance, access to safe drinking water, sanitation, and watershed management. The network analyzes the impacts of economic activities on water resources and aquatic ecosystems. Our work contributes to discussions on the sustainable management of water resources and the public policies needed to ensure equitable access to water.

EcoAct-Congo analyzes water and aquatic environments using an integrated approach that links water governance, ecology, public health, and regional development. The network examines the interactions between economic activities, watershed management, and people’s living conditions. Our approach also focuses on the social impacts of water degradation, particularly on health, food security, and economic activities related to water resources.
